inle lake

Geologically, due to an occurrence of a major fault in millions years ago, the earth became rising up about (3000-6000) ft above sea level, apparently quite higher than the central plains beside, forming high hilly range called Shan Plateau. At the foot of the highest mountain situates Taunggyi, (meaning 'Big Mountain') the capital of Shan State. Shan state is the largest state in area in Myanmar in which many tribes and ethnics are living in 57 townships.

Inle Lake

Inle Lake is the major attraction of Shan States for all tourists. Located in Nyaungshwe township, 2880ft above sea level, with 158 sq-km area, the beautiful giant lake with bluish grey serene water on which leg-rowing fishermen, thick reed mats, arrays of various plantation of vegetable and flowers, floating markets, long-legged wooden houses of 70000 Intha (local villagers) people, amazing traditional weaving workshops, will make the visitor bewilder as if surfing to a new world. 800-years-old Phaung Daw U Pagoda, built by King Alaung Sithu is a mid-lake temple in which lavishly gilded five Buddha images were enshrined and its pagoda festival is held in ending period of Buddhist Lent (usually in October).

Kalaw

About 70km west of Taunggyi was once a favourite cool hill-station retreat for British officials in summer. Pine trees, orange orchards and bamboo groves giving shelter to the colonial buildings are enhancing the beauty of the town. From Kalaw, a visit to Palaung villages and famous Pindaya Cave (in which hundreds of Buddhs statues were enshrined) can be started.

Kekku

Kekku is a lovely site of a collection of forest stupas numbering 5257, which are said to be the same age as Bagan temples (built in 11-13th Century). Pa-O tribes can be seen paying hom,age to the stupas. Kekku can be reached by Three-hour-drive from Taunggyi along the way to Loikaw.

kalaw

Kalaw is located about 71 km in the west of Taunggyi. It is a peaceful summer resort nestled in pine-clad mountains. There are several interesting hill-tribes living in the environs of Kalaw. These hill-tribes in their colourful costumes coming to Kalaw market add to the tranquil lure of Kalaw.

taunggyi

Taunggy, the capital city of Shan State in the eastern part of Myanmar, is know for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate. The weather is cool all the year round and the area is colorful with lovely flowers, pine trees and green orchard. Being situated over 1400 meters above sea-level, Taunggyi is ideal for holiday-makers during the summer time.

Taungyi Market

It is the most fascinating place to watch the daily life of the minorities and their activities. One will be un-forgettable to see the flock of the tribals or ethnic people who come down the market to sell their luscious vegetables, fruits, and flowers at every five days market.

Taunggyi Museum

It is an ethnographic museum in which one can see the life-size statues of minorities with the respective colorful dressing, their traditional weapons and utilities in addition to the dress of the late Shan Sawbwars (Dukes or Lords). It opens from 09:30 to 15:30 to except Saturdays and Sundays.
